Specialties
My work centers on helping people align their financial resources with the life they genuinely want to live. As a Registered Life Planner®, I specialize in guiding clients through meaningful financial transitions — not just technical decisions.
Areas of focus include:
- Retirement planning and “work optional” design
- Investment management using evidence-based strategies
- Tax-aware planning and coordination
- Estate planning collaboration
- Insurance and risk management review
- Business owner planning (cash flow, equity, exit strategy)
- Sudden wealth and liquidity events
- Professional athlete planning (career arc and post-career transition)
- Life transitions: career change, sale of a business, relocation, parenthood, retirement
Many of my clients are entrepreneurs or professionals who are financially successful but feel a growing sense that “more” is no longer the goal — alignment is. My specialty is helping them clarify what enough means, design around it, and build a financial structure that supports their deeper values rather than replaces them.
About My Practice
Lighthouse Planning is an independent, fee-only financial life planning firm based in the Kansas City area and serving clients nationwide.
Founded in 2025 after ten years in traditional advisory practice, the firm was built around a simple belief: financial planning should start with your life — not your portfolio.
Our process blends the Kinder EVOKE® Life Planning methodology with comprehensive financial planning and evidence-based investment management. We operate as fiduciaries at all times and do not sell products or earn commissions.
We work through a structured but deeply personal planning process that begins with clarity — what matters most, what an ideal life looks like — and then build the technical architecture around it: cash flow, investments, tax coordination, estate collaboration, and risk management.
The name “Lighthouse” reflects our philosophy: steady guidance through complexity, grounded in truth, simplicity, and long-term perspective.
About Bryan Gum
I’ve spent over a decade as a financial advisor, including five years as a Partner at a $1B+ advisory firm before launching my independent firm, Lighthouse Planning.
I am a CFP® professional and a Registered Life Planner® (RLP®) trained and certified through the Kinder Institute of Life Planning. My professional foundation combines rigorous financial planning with evidence-based investing and deep life planning work.
Outside of work, I’m a husband, dad, musician, soccer player, traveler, and someone who deeply values living intentionally. Those passions shape how I show up for clients. I believe money should support your relationships, health, creativity, and contribution... not quietly replace them.
Ideal Clients
My clients are typically between their early 30s and mid-50s, though I also work with retirees and professional athletes navigating career transitions.
Most are entrepreneurs, business owners, physicians, creatives, or professional athletes. Many are married or raising families. They tend to be thoughtful, driven, and values-oriented.
They are not looking for speculation or financial hype. They want clarity. They want a partner who can challenge them thoughtfully, simplify complexity, and help them make confident decisions.
A common thread: they are financially capable but feel tension between success and satisfaction. They want their money to support their relationships, health, freedom, and impact — not compete with them.
They value evidence over trends, long-term thinking over noise, and alignment over accumulation.
Qualifications
I am a Certified Financial Planner™ professional (CFP®) and a Registered Life Planner® (RLP®) through the Kinder Institute of Life Planning.
The CFP® designation reflects comprehensive training and examination in retirement planning, investments, tax planning, estate planning, insurance, and fiduciary responsibility.
The RLP® designation represents advanced training in deep listening, values-based planning, and helping clients design lives of meaning and fulfillment. It is not simply a financial credential — it is a human one.
In addition to formal designations, I bring over a decade of hands-on advisory experience working with entrepreneurs, high earners, and families through both growth seasons and major life transitions.
I operate as a fee-only fiduciary, meaning my advice is not influenced by commissions or product incentives. My commitment is to clarity, objectivity, and long-term alignment for every client I serve.
